A professional licensure disclosure is a regulation of the U. S. Department of Education requiring all colleges and university to communicate publicly and directly to prospective and current students about academic programs that will or will not fulfill educational requirements for a specific professional licensure that is required for employment in that field. The disclosure is required by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, specifically 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) and 34 CFR 668.43 (c). The regulation requires institutions to make readily available to enrolled and prospective students information about whether programs leading to professional licensure or certification meet educational requirements.

LSUHSC offers several programs leading to professional licensure within the State of Louisiana. States vary in what professions they require to be licensed and how licensure functions. Some states require an individual to graduate from an approved program. Other licensure or certification requirements may include professional examinations, background checks, years of work experience, fingerprinting requirements, etc. Others require an individual to “meet [the] certification
requirements of a national organization”.

LSUHSC is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity
Agreement (NC-SARA) which allows us to provide distance learning programs (both online and in the form of supervised field experiences) and coursework to residents of states other than Louisiana.  NC-SARA membership, however, does not grant reciprocity or exempt us from state professional licensing requirements.  As a result, licensing requirements in Louisiana may not be recognized as sufficient to obtain a license in any other state.  Students who are considering an academic program that may allow them to pursue professional licensure outside of Louisiana are strongly encouraged to contact the appropriate state or territory licensing agency to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program.

Licensure and certification information is reviewed and updated on this site annually.
Students who plan to pursue licensure or certification outside of Louisiana should
be aware that state licensure requirements are subject to changes. While a program
may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure, changes in requirements could impact the program’s ability to meet any new educational requirements. Students should always check with their state licensure board to confirm licensure requirements.

Relocating during the course of a program to another state may impact if the student
can remain in the program, meet the state licensure requirements and/or continue to
receive financial aid funding. Prior to considering relocation, please contact your
program to discuss authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.

Programs that customarily lead to licensure:

LSUHSC
is currently gathering information and at this time, a determination has not been
made as to whether the program leads to licensure in all states for those programs
that are not linked.

The federal government mandates that students who withdraw from all classes may only keep the financial aid (federal Title IV grant and loan assistance) they have earned up to the time of withdrawal. Funds that were disbursed in excess of the earned amount must be returned by the University and/or the student to the federal government.

Students receiving federal student aid should be aware that U.S. Department of Education regulations govern the refund and repayment of federal student aid when a student withdraws before completion of the semester for which federal student aid has been received.
